Journalism

     What exactly is journalism? Journalism is the activity or profession of writing for newspapers or magazines or of broadcasting news on radio or television. A couple of years ago I actually started to  think about journalism as a career.  It was never at the top of my list for potential careers, but it was a thought. I see shows like Ugly Betty and The Newsroom and the adrenaline that surges through the office setting of the shows look so exciting. I used to think that working in an office was the most boring job on earth, but for some reason it's seem more thrilling now. I highly doubt that I will become a journalist, but it's fun to imagine. What are your thoughts on journalism? 

Someone To Love me

     A couple of weeks ago I picked up a book for independent reading. It's the fourth installment in The Bluford Series, and it is titled Someone To Love me by Anne Schraff. The book is actually pretty good. I didn't think I would like it because I didn't like the way the cover looked. It is about a teenage girl named Cindy Gibson who attends Bluford High School. Cindy has a very rocky home life. Her father is nowhere to be found, and her mother is never home. Her mom spends most of  her time working at a restaurant, and she spends the rest of her time with her boyfriend Raffie. Cindy absolutely loathes Raffie. He is always teasing her and she thinks he is bad news. Cindy wants her mom to see Raffie for who he really is so that she can dump him and things can get back to the way things were, but Cindy's mother is blind when it comes to her boyfriend. Cindy is lonely and all she wants is for someone to love her. 

     Cindy did not have very good attendance at school. Most of the time she stayed home and watched movies all day. Her mother would tell her that she ought to go to school and get an education, because she doesn't want to end up like her, but she does or says no more than that. Cindy's friend Jamee finally got her to come to school one day, and that's when things really took a turn for the worst. Cindy met this boy named Bobby Wallace and in a couple of weeks they begin to date. Bobby treats Cindy like a princess, and she adores him. The thing is, Bobby used to go out with Cindy's friend Jamee. Bobby did a substantial amount of drugs which, in turn, caused him to be domestically violent towards Jamee. He beat her extremely bad throughout their relationship. What makes things even worse is that Cindy knew all that Jamee had been through, because she was the one who helped her get out of the situation. 

     Cindy truly believes that Bobby has changed. Later on in the story we see that he, in fact, does not change at all. He lied to her throughout their whole relationship. Bobby continued to do drugs, and he still had an abusive nature about him. He turned into the total opposite person as to who she thought he was. Bobby began to beat Cindy just how he used to beat Jamee. In the end Jamee and a few more of Cindy's friends got her out of the situation she had gotten herself into. Why do you think Cindy's mother treated her daughter the way she did? Why do you think Bobby treated women the way that he did? Why would Cindy ever go out with Bobby if she knew what he had done in his past? What does it say about Jamee considering the fact that she remained friends with Cindy after going out with her abusive ex-boyfriend? Let me know what you think in the comments. 

where did it come from?

There are roughly 6,500 spoken languages in the world today. Where did all of these languages come from? I find it interesting that there are so many distinct languages in the world. Although it makes me wonder where they all came from. How they all originated. I've done research and, according to three different source, there is too much controversy over what the first language ever spoken was. It can not be accurately traced back. I'm really intrigued by language and I would love to know where all language began, but I guess I will have to do more diligent research to try and come close to figuring things out.

This Is Legit The Best Piece of Literature I've Ever Seen ...

     Our generation tends to exaggerate way more than we should. Now a days it seems that we can't have a decent conversation without exaggerating something to the slightest bit. For example, you could be explaining to someone how hot it was at practice today. Instead of just saying "It was so hot at practice today" , you say "Oh my gosh ! It was legit 3,000 degrees at practice today. I thought I was going to die." Clearly it wasn't 3,000 degrees, because if that was the case we would all be toast. You also weren't going to die, it was just another exaggeration as to how hot it was. So, my question is why do we feel the need to exaggerate so much. Why do we feel as though we can't express our feelings or thoughts without exaggeration . I wonder what conversation would be like if we didn't exaggerate to the extent that we do. We probably would die of boredom because everything will sound so "plain". See, there I go exaggerating.
